A refreshingly real look at dog showing from the inside, this book is geared to the novice and near-novice but serves as an excellent refresher for even old-timers in the sport. The author does not pooh-pooh political judging, but says it is not as common as many say. She stresses doing your very best with your dog rather than whining about the unfairness of it all. As a fancier with 35 years experience, though mine is not as intensive as the author's, I found only one thing to disagree with (and among dog people, that is pretty impressive!) She states that spectators come with 'no common sense or dog knowledge.' Some, maybe yes, but I think most of them have plenty of common sense. And some have lots of dog k owl edge, if not show dog knowledge. The dog show world is full of murky pitfalls and ways to 'sin' without even knowing it. Expecting the average person visiting a show to know that, for instance, exhibitors don't want to talk before classes, professional handlers generally won't talk to them at all, the dog they brought along will not be able to enter, and petting a dog could mess up a two-hour grooming job. I have a soft spot for spectators, remembering the first show I attended at age eight and the Pekingese breeder who was kind to me. Our hobby is dwindling fast and if we do not learn to relate to real people in kindness, it will be gone in just a few years. Soapbox ended. Kudos on an easy to read guide to showing.Product details

I love the fact that it is in an easy to understand format and is very informational for someone who is new to dog shows. And it has some good facts and tips for seasoned show folks.
I like this book very much..no Nitza is not standing beside me pinching my arm...ok maybe she is.. Just kidding. This book is informative and helpful for not just the starting dog enthusiasts, but for also people that have had dogs for years or generations.. she has helped me personally learn more about a breed that I have been involved with my whole life. Thank you Nitza.
This is a very informative book about showing your dog. I learned some things and had some laughs, Nitsa Trayler writes in an honest way, you'll love this read!
She's very funny and knows what she's talking about.I hope she writers another book soon. Let the lessons begin with all her wisdom.
What you will learn from this book will probably be different than what I learned. We all have different needs. It is an enjoyable book with lessons and all.
I have had a few handling lessons with Nitsa, and every one was full of humorous stories and anecdotes that really drove home her point. "Stop walking like a construction worker!" "Dollies up!" "What are you showing to the judge, your dog's head or your whole dog?" As Nitsa says, I will never again enter a show ring without hearing her voice in my head. Reading this book was just like having a good, long, sit-down chat with Nitsa. Again, she uses humor to drive home her point, and she never preaches or lectures, yet every word she says is full of wisdom. Nitsa tells you the story and lets you figure out the moral, which is a much more effective way to teach. Nitsa is great, and so is her book!

a GOOD read. a recommendation to anyone who attends and shows dogs...
Show etiquette and manners get twisted around, because we
see so many violators before us, IN and OUTSIDE of the ring
if one doesn't know - one could assume the wrong is RIGHT.
